“I always thought I had to be flexible to do yoga. Then Maggie asked, ‘What are you doing to get flexible before coming to yoga?’ and I just laughed because… nothing! She explained how yoga works for any body, no matter how flexible or strong they are (plus how if we’re not working on it, every day of our lives we’re losing flexibility and muscle tone!) and she took time to listen to my concerns. At the beginning of pretty much every class Maggie always asks if there’s anything in particular we want to work on so each practice really serves her students. She just makes practices doable no matter how inflexible or weak I might think I am. And, even though I’m a crazy busy working mom and I feel like I have no time to fit in yoga or any kind of time for myself, somehow it always feels like I have more time on the days I practice with Maggie. After class I’m calmer, happier, focused, more effective and kind. I guess it’s the magic she always mentions!”

- Lisa S.

I love yoga. I can’t wait to share it with you and see it brighten your life!

Want to reclaim your energy? Enhance your patience? Gain focus and calm? Build physical strength and mental resilience? Make self care sacred because you’re worth it? Then take MVS classes!

Dear You,

Yoga inspires my whole life. It’s the foundation for how I move my body, cook and eat, interact with others, approach parenting and partnering, create content and entertainment for you… everything! It brightens my life in some way every day, and that’s what I want for you. No worries, it’s easy to apply to your modern life. You don’t have to be a sagely guru to be able to live a bright life, inspired by yoga.

You just have to be you, committed to showing up to your yoga practice today so you can show up for everyone and everything else in your life tomorrow with more joy, happiness and health.

You could take yoga at your local gym or studio or even for free with YouTube teachers. If that works for you, if it makes your life bright enough, go for it! Most people yearn for more connection and interaction than that, and they need a little more real time guidance to actually get them on their mat weekly. That’s where I come in. Even though this is a virtual experience to meet this moment in a hybrid world, when you take classes with me, I strive to personalize, customize and tailor each class to my students’ needs. I make yoga doable, fun, and truly supportive of your whole life, off the mat.
See you in class!

NamastYAY! Maggie

 GOOD MORNING SUNSHINE

This quicker class is essentially a sun salutation session.  It will get your energy, blood and breath flowing and is a great way to start the day!

We'll explore various sun salutations and/or variations on sun salutations, focused on a specific style or sequence at each class with the aim of creating a 20-25 minute long moving meditation and each class will end with a short seated guided visualization.

Sun Salutations are considered a yogi's "MDR", or minimum daily requirement.  They don't take a long time to do, but they provide you with incredible energy, strength, flexibility and clarity of mind.

You could use this as your total daily movement, or in conjunction with any other movement you're choosing to do that day.  You might like this class as a warmup for your own yoga practice or another type of workout, or to support any other fitness you're up to with some realignment and bright stretching.

 SALUBRIOUS FLOW

Salubrious— adjective: health-giving

Explore all kinds of postures at a gentle pace with particularly smooth entries and exits to enhance stability, increase joint mobility and lubrication, understand detailed alignment that supports all physical fitness and yoga practices, deepen all-over strength and flexibility, heighten breath capacity, calm the nervous system to quell stressors, detox your whole being, and learn how postures serve your day to day living. This class helps improve your overall health while aging and flowing with the seasons of your life.

After this practice you will feel refreshed, renewed, capable, vital, centered, at peace, strong, lighter, and ready.

 VIGOROUS FLOW

Vigorous— adjective: strong, healthy, and full of energy

Explore all kinds of postures at an energetically flowing pace, linking breath to movement as inspired by Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.  Increase joint mobility and lubrication, deepen all-over strength and flexibility, heighten breath capacity, calm the nervous system to quell stressors, detox your whole being, and get out of your head and into your body through this moving meditation.  You’ll be encouraged not to think too much.  Instead, learn to more naturally go with the flow and courageously expand your abilities, open your mind, connect to your heart, quiet your inner critic, trust your instincts, and enhance your sense of joy.

After this practice you will feel refreshed and energized, capable and at peace, clarity of mind, and grateful for your body.

MIIT MOVES - LOW IMPACT SCULPTING & TONING

MIIT— acronym: magareeshi intensive interval training

In this efficiently effective class you experience sculpting, toning and strengthening with no to low-impact bodyweight-bearing movements that utilize yogic alignment, mat Pilates principles, breath connection, mindfulness, and sometimes inspirational mantras.  Through non-injurious repetitive movements at a slow pace and with regular practice you’ll increase your overall strength and enhance muscle tone and ability — especially in your arms, legs and core while having fun and affirming positive mindset.  Unlike other workouts, we always make time for relaxation and integration at the end.

 ASHTANGA YOGA

Ashtanga Yoga is a flowing form of yoga that synchronizes breath with movement while doing (basically) the same postures in the same order each time you practice.  It consists of multiple "series" of posture sequences.  Typically we'll focus on the Primary (first) Series and then blend additional series sequences to suit our MVS practitioners best.  In Ashtanga Yoga classes you'll work conscious of alignment, but not focused on perfection.  There's always room for individuality and personal needs to be met.

Its flowing style and repetitive movement allows this practice to become a moving meditation over time -- clearing your mind, uplifting your mood, strengthening and realigning your whole body, elongating your spine, and supporting your joint health.

This is the style that "Power Yoga" and "Vinyasa Yoga" are based on.

This style of yoga is often taught as a very fast paced, fitness oriented practice.  The traditional goal with this practice, however, which often isn't taught, is to elongate the breath over time to make each movement beautiful, reverent, peaceful, and somewhat slow-flowing.  Strength and flexibility are both gained over time through this practice through body weight-bearing and deep stretching exercises.

Maggie, in a particular, takes time to offer modifications in all her Ashtanga Yoga classes while maintaining a rhythmic flow overall so that each student has the opportunity to get the most out of the practice while making it their own.

ASHTANGA YOGA CLASSES ARE PRESENTED AS…

MODIFIED PRIMARY SERIES

In this class you'll learn a Modified Primary Series -- a sequence that's modeled after but shorter than the typical 70 postures practiced in Ashtanga's Primary Series.  You'll utilize internal energy locks and muscle engagements while practicing fluid sun salutations, standing, seated, and back-bending posture variations, attempt some arm balances and basic upside positions, and always end with rest and relaxation.

You'll gain focus, stability, the ability to be less/non-judgmental, physical strength and flexibility, courage, playfulness and empowerment.

FULL PRIMARY SERIES

In this class you'll learn the Full Primary Series -- a sequence consisting of approximately 70 postures practiced in the same order each time (though sometimes we'll vary how we move between the right and left sides of the body).  You'll utilize internal energy locks and muscle engagements while practicing specific breathing techniques, fluid sun salutations, standing, seated, and backbending postures, arm balances, headstanding (and some handstanding), and always end with rest and relaxation.

You'll gain meditative focus, the ability to be less/non-judgmental, physical strength and flexibility (especially hamstring flexibility), courage, playfulness and empowerment.

ASHTANGA YOGA MIX

In this class presented for students of mixed levels you'll build upon what you know from our Beginning and Primary Series Ashtanga Yoga classes.  Explore a mix of postures from the traditional Primary, Second and Third Series sequences as well as innovations to enhance your whole experience.  You'll utilize internal energy locks and muscle engagements while practicing fluid sun salutations, various standing, seated, and backbending postures - including advanced options, arm balances and upside down positions such as head and hand standing, and always end with rest and relaxation.  Modifications and prop adjustments will be offered.

You'll gain deeper focus, courage, strength, flexibility (especially deeper spinal flexibility), joy, trust in yourself, and capability.

 RECENTERING RESTORATIVE YIN YOGA

With this absolutely lovely class your stress will be alleviated and you'll feel softer, comfortable, and at peace in your body.  With slow transitions and long-held physical asanas, you'll explore a handful of postures deeply, learning to utilize props as desired to allow yourself to melt open into each one.  In addition to yoga postures, each class incorporates some combination of breathing exercises, guided visualization, journal prompts and quiet, resting time.  In each class you'll be skillfully guided, led on a journey that will open your heart and release physical and emotional tension.  After this class you can expect to to enjoy enhanced physical flexibility, self awareness and mental acuity. You'll feel reconnected to your true nature.

Set up for class with any props that make you comfortable like a yoga bolster (or bed pillow/couch cushion), an eye pillow, a neck pillow, blanket(s), as well as a journal and a writing utensil.  It can also be nice to have water or herbal tea to drink.
